Marine platform, side slipways and side shifting system at Chanch yard, Rajula Taluka, Dist: Amreli

The work involved reclamation of 27000 sqm for marine platform for ship building requiring peripheral gabion walls admeasuring around 10600 cum and laying of around 19000 sqm of Geotextile fabric laid as per Consultant's design. The unique feature of the said platform was construction of over 6.5 m high periphery walls comprised with 5T-10T individual gabions to form massive gravity wall to withstand both active and passive pressures developing on account of filling and furies of erosive rough sea conditions.

The marine platform is connected with the shore by 40 m long RCC bridge culvert. Further beyond the bund; 5 side slipways were provided on cluster of pile foundations. The piling for slip ways was carried out in extreme high waves conditions using tailor made structural gantries. On the platform side shifting tracks were provided for ship construction and its movement. All the finished works such as Railway tracks, alignment of slipways and control of level was carried out with nearly zero tolerance besides the construction of RCC culvert and earthwork around 168000 cum completed in time. The work was carried out from shore line to 240 m into the sea.
